If These Floors Could Talk: From Storage to Sanctuary

Hello Darling,

It has been a busy few months! Work has been extremely overwhelming & I needed to pump the breaks a bit on writing to give myself a much needed mental rest.

It’s still a bit rusty in there, so excuse this ultra simplified blog update.

I needed to do more at home that wasn’t work, so I jumped into tackling one of our home projects on the list: the spare bedroom.

Since we moved in, this room has held multiple functions, but ultimately became an eyesore with cluttered storage.

I started sorting out boxes between his (my husband) and mine. Most of these boxes had been half empty from when we were organizing elsewhere and thought, “that do-dad in the spare room would look good here”.
That meant now; here laid a graveyard of all the discarded and forgotten items who didn’t have a proper place yet. Not to mention the half empty decoration boxes that somehow never made it to their proper place on the storage room in the attic.

For the most part, splitting things and knowing what we could move out of the room was easy, it was just the process of having to repack and determine if the items still had purpose with us that was harder.

I started to organize my stuff, most of which were childhood toys I had brought with me to “someday” let my future children play with. As I began repacking items, I made a limit for myself on how many items I was keeping. Once I hit that threshold, the extra toys were going to be passed down to my niece who can play with them now & thoroughly enjoy them just as I did. Spoiler, one birthday girl coming up is getting a vintage American Girl Doll!

After three hours of organizing, shuffling and breaking down empty boxes, you could see the floors and feel the spaciousness of the room again. For what knick-knacks were there, I now had my shelves up to display them instead of leaning against the walls, For what artwork had frames, they were now on display. For items who still don’t quite have a home, we decided the attic storage room was big enough. We put fresh sheets on the bed and rolled out a carpet for comfort. It felt like a brand new room.

Casper is in love with the room and we get plenty of “girl time” in as I work on a side hobby of vlogging about fashion, beauty & home décor on Instagram & YouTube (@yourbabefriday) using the space as my area to work in.

Did I mention it has bright green walls? Yeah…maybe a future project will be to repaint and tone down the color. For now, I’ll soak up all the natural light & peace of mind that it feels more like a part of our home and less like a storage locker.

Until Next Time,

M.E.
