The Writer’s Journal: June Bug + Bridal Shower
/Hello Darling,
It’s been a few weeks - and lots of life in between.
Firstly, my computer broke down. To be more exact, the touch screen broke. One minute I’m editing our wedding guest list, the next I’ve lost all control of my screen. I’ve yet to find a replacement. Needless to say, writing/editing and blogging has proven to be tricky to find time for in a comfortable setting. Remember when hobbies were easy to keep as a kid? Oh, how I miss free time!
As if that wasn’t difficult enough-working three weeks straight was draining, and absorbed almost all of my focus.
Rolling into July was the best feeling. I am back (even as temporary as it is) on a normal work schedule for the month, which means I have more time to write.
Did I mention we’re planning our wedding? When I’m not working, I’m busy planning. This past weekend I hosted my bridal shower. With a small group, it felt just right. We played games (which my fiancé helped create this week), and by far the most favored game of them all was Jeopardy. The unique questions sparked competition of friends and family for who knew the bride, groom and couple the most. Tossing in famous couples and Disney trivia helped immensely even the playing field, making everyone feel like they could gain points. The guests gushed over wedding plans, specifically the dress and venue and made the whole experience enjoyable. As a thank you, I made each guest their own goodie bags which included a homemade sugar scrub and custom cards with EOS lip balm. I’ve imbedded a link to the sugar scrub receipe that I found on Pinterest.
The sugar scrub was easy to make and took very little time to prepare. I put my own twist on it & instead of dying it green, I dyed the scrub black to match more closely with the witch theme of the party.
For the lip balm cards, I created my own DIY cut outs in Photoshop using multiple sources to find the perfect shape. For those unable to create their own, I saw that there are a ton of cost friendly Etsy shops that specialize in paper designs specifically to fit the popular lip balm securely.
The shower was exactly what I needed to get excited about the big day coming, and exactly what I needed to break away from the work cycle for a few days. I get so tied up in fulfilling other people’s needs that I forget about my own too quickly. Sometimes we all need a reminder that our own time, our own priorities, are just as important as other’s.
Life can’t always be a breeze, nor should it be. The hurdles we face daily are what make the reward of completing our dreams that much more fulfilling.
Until next time,
M.E.
